~JLPT: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (日本語能力試験, Nihongo NōryokuShiken) evaluates a person’s proficiency in the Japanese language which widely used by professionals seeking employment at Japanese companies and students seeking acceptance at Japanese educational institutions to certify their language proficiency.
The test has five levels, from level 5 for beginners to level 1 for advanced students. Writing, reading, listening, vocabulary and grammar skills are all tested during the 1.5 to 3 hour test. The JLPT is held twice a year, in July and December, in various cities inside and outside of Japan (only once per year in some locations). Anyone wishing to take the test should register at least three months in advance (check official website for exact dates). Results of the test are released about two to three months after the test date.
~NAT: The Japanese Language NAT-TEST is an examination that measures the Japanese language ability of students who are not native Japanese speakers. The tests are separated by difficulty (five levels) and general ability is measured in three categories: Grammar/Vocabulary, Listening and Reading Comprehension. The format of the exam and the types of questions are equivalent to those that appear on the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
~EJU: The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) is used to evaluate whether international students who wish to study at the undergraduate level at universities or other such higher educational institutions in Japan possess the Japanese language skills and the basic academic abilities needed to study at those institutions.
EJU takes the place of both the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and the General Examination for Foreign Students.
